White House Congratulates Sikhs On the 300th Inauguration Anniversary Of Guru Granth

Sunday October 19, 2008

“I send greetings to those celebrating the 300th anniversary of the Sikh Scriptures.” The United States president extended congratulations to Sikhs in America and around the world, on October 13, 2008 in a message sent to the Sikh Council On Religion and Education (SCORE).

President George W. Bush acknowledged Sikh values adding, “Sikhism teaches its followers to respect the equality of all people, defend the weak, lead lives of compassion and generosity, and work hard. By putting their beliefs and values into action, Sikhs honor God and provide comfort to countless individuals. I applaud the Sikh community for their respect for human life and strong devotion to family and faith. With this message of compassion, humility, and love, Sikhs make the world a more peaceful and hopeful place. Laura and I send our best wishes on this special occasion.”

Dr. Rajwant Singh, Chairman of SCORE, received the message with thanks on behalf of the world wide Sikh community.

The inauguration of Guru Granth, the Sikh Scripture, is celebrated annually by Sikhs worldwide from October through early November.
