October and early November is a time in which Sikhs worldwide focus on Guru Granth Inauguration festivities. How Sikhs choose to observe local holidays varies from person to person. Families with school age children face greater challenges in balancing religious values with social situations. Some Sikhs make use of holidays by arranging worship services. Others adapt to local holidays by giving them a Sikhi spin.

With Halloween fast approaching parents have the opportunity to educate in children Sikhi values.

  • The emphasis on costumes provides an occasion to highlight heritage, traditional dress, and the code of honor.
  • A visit to the pumpkin patch and Jack-O-Lantern carving can be turned into an event focused on spotlighting Sikh symbols.
  • Take the trick out of ‘Trick or Treat’ by hosting a friend and family get together, and making Naam Ladoo your treat.
