Can we ever know what came before, or what awaits us in the afterlife?

The scripture Guru Granth is considered by Sikhs as the means of enlightenment able to deliver humanity from the ego state of duality of cause and effect which casts the soul into an endless cycle of birth and death.

Guru Amar Das wrote:
One who receives Your Mercy, O Primal Lord, does not die, and is not reborn; he is released from the cycle of reincarnation. SGGS||1052
