April 22nd is Earth Day, a day when people around the world come together to focus on our planets sustainable environment.
I've been asking myself, "What more can I do to be conscious of my environment, to help turn back the tide of climate change? Is Earth Day enough?"
and thinking, "Perhaps we ought to extend this to Earth Year, or even Earth Decade."
I asked my family, and they say "Start Small." Encourage everyone to try and make little changes that add up to big results when enough people get involved.
Earth hour which turns off the lights for one hour after dark each year gets a close to billion participants and numbers of people participating grow each year. Can we be part of a billion who go green for an hour or entire day each year? Better yet, how about an entire lifetime of going green? After all, helping the planet helps not only those of us living now, but helps our generations to come.
If you've been following Amar Pal Singh's insights to the Sikh scripture Sukhmani Sahib, which translates to mean "Peace Lagoon," you may have noticed this line:
"Saadh kai sang sabh kul udhaarai||
In the company of pure, spiritually evolved people, the entire clan gets elevated."
This tells us that our efforts are rewarded. So for Earth Hour and Earth Day, let's do our part, inspire others to do so, and also make it our goal to elevate the whole of humanity, make the planet a healthier place to live and continue to do so day after day for the remainder of our time here on Earth.

Motivating post! I just watched the Lorax movie this weekend, which warns of what will happen to the environment UNLESS someone like you and me cares a whole awful lot to help the Earth.
I agree…small steps are so doable and we have no excuses.
Every little bit helps. we can’t do it all, and then there are whole countries that do nothing but pollute and I don’t understand why and how the peoples living there are not all sick. but that aside, we choose to live in our environment. the earth is going to go in its natural cycles but we don’t have to hasten its demise. It is our home & belongs to our children.
We are making a point to recycle more of what we’d rather not ‘deal with.’ An example is cat food tins. This small change takes just a little extra effort. I agree that making small changes adds up, and it makes me feel like I’m living in line with my values.
What a great reminder that every little extra effort adds up, today, Earth Day, and every day.
