Featured: Asa di Var Kirtan on Bus Ride to LA Smagam
I began thinking about the LA AKJ ( Akhand Kirtan Jatha) smagam several months ahead of time. I hadn't been in about decade and hoped to go. However I couldn't find any any information about a smagam during the Thanksgiving holiday, and as the time got closer the prospect of a long 6 or 7 hour drive held less and less appeal. Then suddenly out of nowhere we got a call with just a few days to spare requesting that we come to the smagam and an invitation to ride a bus to the smagam along with 60 members of our local beloved sangat. We gladly accepted, little knowing what a grand treat awaited us.
The bus was scheduled to leave from our closest gurdwara. We arrived at our place of departure around 5:30 am and boarded the bus about 6 am after visiting the gurdwara and langar hall. The smagam began the moment we stepped on the bus, for no sooner did we roll out, than Asa di Var kirtan began and continued during our entire trip.

We arrived mid afternoon just on time to freshen up for the next kirtan session. I'm very grateful to our awesome driver, and so thankful we attended as it turned out to be quite an eventful holiday after all.

A bus ride can be a joy when you have lots of fellowship going on. It’s much better than driving, in my opinion.
Bus rides are wonderful when you are with a group of great people, who help you pass the time. This sounds like one of those trips.
Was a great trip! Reminded me (in a very psychedelic way) of the Ken Keasy Bus “Further”! Music and “Whae Guru” the whole way with wonderful langar served by Sangat! A truly wonderful and magical time1
