Nanakshahi Calendar Year 548 International Gurpurab Dates 2016 - 2017

Sikhism Commemorative Events and Holidays

International Gurpurab commemorative dates and Sikhism events observed during the months of the Nanakshahi Year 548 fall between March 14, 2016 and March 13, 2017. Dates given here correspond with the official calendar devised and released annually in mid March in Amritsar, India by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGCP). The Punjabi language SGPC calendar is calculated to correspond with the East Indian Bikrami fluctuating calendar, and may differ from fixed Nanakshahi historic dates as calculated by Western calendars. Therefore, annual amendments by SGPC to the Nanakshahi calendar continue to cause controversy between communities of the global Sikh panth. Consequently Sikh holidays in the West are often observed on weekends for several consective weeks as is most convienient for respective gurdwara communites. Holidays may fall twice, or not at all, in a calendar year.
