Furnish the Portable Altar With Heart Shaped Pillows
Three small pillows are necessary to furnish the altar. The pillows offer support to the scripture of the Guru Granth when it is opened.
Materials needed for heart shaped pillows:
- One yard (before cutting fabric see ruffle *tip below).
Heart Shaped Pillows
Materials needed to make 3 heart shaped pillows:
- One yard. Allow 12"x24"of fabric for each pillow or 24"x36" for all three.
- Matching thread.
- Two 12 oz. bags of batting or foam equivalent (8 oz. for each, foam may very in weight).
Make a pattern:
- Use a 12 inch square of paper or scrap material to make a pattern.
- Fold the paper diagonally, trace and cut out a heart shape.
- Open flat.
To make one heart shaped pillow:
- Cut fabric to size. (see *tip below) Use two 12 inch squares of fabric or fold a piece of 12"x24" fabric in half right sides together.
- Trace the pattern diagonally onto the wrong side of the fabric.
- Trim away excess fabric and pin pieces together wrong side out.
- Stitch pieces together, with half inch seam allowance, leaving a 3 inch opening along one side.
- Turn pillow casing right side out.
- Stuff with handfuls of about 8 oz. of batting material.
- Tuck in edges of the opening and stitch to close.
*Ruffle Tip: Fold fabric in half lengthwise and trim 10" of the doubled fabric from the outer edge and set aside to be used in making a ruffle for the canopy. Use the center piece for the heart shaped pillows.
