Drape Portable Altar With Ramala Altar Cloths
Drape the platform and cushion of the portable altar with a ramala altar cloths. A large one is used in front and smaller ones on each side.
Materials needed to make ramala altar cloth:
- Two yards fabric.
- Matching thread.
- (Optional) 2 1/4 yards Trim.
To make front ramala altar cloth:
- Cut a piece of fabric 1 1/2 yards in length.
- Turn under raw edges on all sides, miter corners and hem.
To make a ramala altar cloth for each side:
- Cut the remaining 1/2 yard into two rectangles 18" x 22 1/12".
- Turn under raw edges on all sides, miter corners and hem.
To apply optional trim:
- Measure the short side of each rectangle of fabric. The small pieces will be approximately 17", and the larger piece approximately 43".
- Cut a piece of trim to the same measurement for each of the three pieces.
- Pin trim to one of the edges of each ramala and stitch in place.
To drape the portable altar:
- The trimmed edge is the bottom of the ramala altar cloth.
- Spread the front ramala altar cloth so that the trimmed portion of it covers the floor. Smooth it over the sheet or decorative cloth.
- Drape the top end over the covered cushion and place the three heart shaped pillows on top.
- Drape the side pieces so that the trimmed edge hangs down. The top edge will be tucked between the cover and outer pages of the scripture Guru Granth.
(Optional) After all projects are complete, trim and hem left over sections of fabric and contrasting material. Use one to cover heart shaped pillows, and the other to cover the prashad bowl.
