Place a Candle in the Jack-O-Lantern

To carve the hollowed out shell of the Jack-O-Lantern, carefully follow the lines you have sketched. You can save the bits of discarded pumpkin to use for cooking or baking later if desired. When you have completely finished carving your design, place a small votive candle in the bottom of the pumpkin shell. A large candle may be smokey and blacken the inside of the pumpkin. Your Jack-O-Lantern is likely to last longer if you use a small candle which produces very little heat.
