The Sikh word for hymn is shabad. The singers are members of *Akhand Kirtan Jetha, a group dedicated to *unbroken adoration in song. The worshipers gather around the performers to join in the devotional singing as the night progresses. Everyone faces towards the scripture of Guru Granth to sing kirtan hymns of praise. The verses of the shabads being sung are from the scripture's sacred text.
