Dear Governor Schwarzenegger,
Your veto of Bill AB 504 requiring Police Officers to be educated about the Sikh Kirpan means harassment of innocent citizens and costs taxpayers' money. When law officers' ignorance confuses the Sikh kirpan for a concealed weapon violation, and results in an arrest, the time, energy and resources of all are wasted. Sikhs have been living in California for over 100 years. Sikhs have been given the right to wear the kirpan publicly and in schools in California. Bill 504 had unanimous bi-partisan backing in the houses of legislature with votes of 77-0 in the Assembly and 36-0 in the State. Your termination of Bill AB 504 disappoints all who supported the endeavor.

We must all be educated about Sikhs and their
traditions. Everyone should be treated with
respect and compassion.
I am an Internatonal Poet, composing a poem
about Sikhs.
Hi Victoria,
I hope you will share your poetry with us.
You make a very good point. This issue can be argued either way though. Maybe if you include a couple of examples, you can get people to see the problem your way.
